D. Barbero is renowned for producing some of the world's finest confectionery using traditional ingredients and
methods. Luxury confectionery for the discerning palate.
People Behind the Brand
In 1883, Melchiorre Barbero obtained the license to sell nougat and "noasetti". Over 130 years later,
D. Barbero is still a family-run business based at the old Gerbi bicycle factory in Asti, Italy.
D. Barbero selects the finest hazelnuts from the Piedmont region and Millefiori honey (honey of a
thousand flowers) to flavour their nougat, chocolates and torrone. They have revisited their
traditional recipes, adding more cocoa and hazelnuts for a more intense flavour.
The Slow Food Movement
Piedmont is often cited as the birthplace of the slow food movement, so it's no surprise that D.
Barbero still uses traditional methods in their factory. Hazelnuts are selected by hand, fresh eggs
are used instead of jellies, and wooden beech moulds are still used to cool their torrones. It may
take longer, but it certainly tastes better.
