German company Lamy is dedicated to designing and making fountain pens, pencils, and accessories. Led by design to create functional objects to enrich your writing life.
Behind the Brand
Economics graduate Manfred Lamy joined his father's company in 1962 as a marketing and advertising manager. In 1966 he launched LAMY 2000, a range of writing instruments created in collaboration with the eminent industrial designer Gerd A. Müller with the Bauhaus ethos 'form follows function'. Lamy took the business from a manufacturer to an international design brand.
Led by Design
Lamy understood the importance of good design, and in 2008 he was awarded the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany for his life's work. The company still adheres to this principle today, working with designers and design studios across the world. The Lamy brand is not only synonymous with superior design; it is also renowned for the quality of its writing implements.
Lamy works hard to ensure that its materials and manufacturing processes are tested for environmental compatibility. Residual and working materials are recycled separately, and solar power and rainwater are vital components of production. Lamy has never produced disposable writing implements, and all of their pens can be repaired.
For the Love of Writing
Lamy has a genuine love of the handwritten written word, both for its aesthetic and therapeutic qualities. From calligraphy lessons in India to hand-lettering workshops in Berlin, they are active in keeping handwriting alive worldwide.
